So you’ve probably already checked out my About Page and gotten yourself familiar with the concept behind Brunch Belle, but below I’ve provided a little fun snapshot of the “girl behind the blog.”
I prefer…
Coffee to tea
I despise tea… of any kind! As much as I eat everything under the sun, I have never acquired the taste for tea. Many people don’t get it. Hell, I don’t get it! I mean, what’s not to like? Whatever the reason, it’s just not my “cup of tea.” On the other hand, I love the rich taste of coffee. I’ll take it with sugar and cream any day.
Dresses to jeans
I know that jeans are usually the go-to basic wear for most women, but I’ve never really had this kind of relationship with jeans. If I had to count, I would say that I wear jeans about five times a year. While I admire the look of well-fitting jeans, I am a comfort dresser, and I do not find jeans to be comfortable. Dresses on the other hand, are cheerful little gifts from heaven. Sundresses, shirt dresses, shift dresses… these are my jeans!
Waffles to pancakes
So this is a REALLY tough one, but I’d have to go with waffles… soft and fluffy on the inside with just the right amount of crisp on the outside. In fact, the concept of waffles remind me a lot of myself… a softy at heart, but a little rough around the edges.
Add some chicken to those waffles, and we definitely have a winner!
Accessories to makeup
I am very low maintenance in the makeup department, so this is an easy choice for me. I use to be heavily into makeup as a teenager and in college, but I haven’t worn a base on my face in years. I’m usually fresh-faced except for the occasional lipstick and eyeliner. Once in a blue moon when I want to get fancy I’ll add some eye shadow to the mix. On the other hand, I am an accessories junkie. Leaving the house without earrings would probably result in a full-blown anxiety attack! I put on earrings just to go to the gym for God’s sake (face palm). Earrings are to me what makeup is to most women… I put on my earrings and somehow I’ve convinced myself that I’m 10 times prettier.
Outdoor to indoor dining
I will never understand people who opt to eat inside on a gorgeous day when you have the option to eat outside! That is all.
Prints and color to all black or neutrals
I feel like color runs through my veins; if you cut me I’ll probably bleed all the colors of the rainbow. Okaaay, a bit dramatic I know, but you get it… I am color obsessed! I’m usually the loudest person in the room, both literally and figuratively. I’m that girl who shows up to the cocktail party in a bold and bright dress like “hey girl, hey!”
Manicures to hairstyles
This may come as a surprise to many because I have a head of beautiful hair (if I may say so myself), but I am simply not into hair maintenance. I can do almost anything myself with my hair, but I am super lazy with it. I dread washing and styling my hair; it’s way up there on my “things I hate doing” list, a close second to grocery shopping. As my luck would have it though, I have very resilient hair that survives the mistreatment I put it through.
I am A-Okay with rocking a top knot all week, but I cannot live without my gel manicures. To the person that invented gel nail polish, I’d like to find you and treat you to a lifetime of bottomless Sunday brunches.
Summer to Spring
Spring sure is beautiful, but this island girl is all about SUMMER. I just want to spend my days basking in the sunshine. I’d rather be too hot than too cold.
Macarons to cupcakes
This is another tough choice, but macarons win. They are just so darn cute and colorful! I suppose you can say the same for cupcakes; but macaraons make me happy. They are my “pick-me-upper” on a bad day.
SOCA OVER EVERYTHING
I LOVE soca! Did I say I LOVE SOCA! It’s my “feel good music.” I’m a proud Anguillian, and there are a lot of things that I cherish about my Caribbean heritage, but I would have to say that music is probably the biggest cultural element of being West Indian that I could not imagine life without. Soca feeds my soul. My philosophy is simple… “you have not lived until you’ve been introduced to soca!” And so I sprinkle a little soca dust wherever I go. If you’ve never heard of soca, you can start with this video that truly embodies the spirit of carnival and thank me for changing your life later.
This post was designed to highlight a few of my favorite things. I hope that you enjoyed getting to know me a little.
Until next time,
Love, Peace, and Mimosas
